The Bonn Network International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction was founded in 2017 to promote networking and exchange between Bonn-based national and international actors from politics, civil society, science and the private sector.
Globally effective processes such as climate change or the increasing dependence on critical infrastructures are linked in a variety of ways. People around the world are threatened by natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods and storms. In our modern living and business worlds, dangers such as floods, drought, heat, epidemics / pandemics or technical accidents harbor risks with the highest potential for damage - usually with an increasing tendency. Their destructive extent is determined by social structures, the level of development of disaster risk reduction and the quality of disaster management.
Against this background, the "Bonn Network International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction" was launched in 2017 on the initiative of the City of Bonn with the support of the Geographical Institute of the University of Bonn and numerous other organizations.
The Bonn Network combines the common vision of sustainably strengthening Bonn as a location for German expertise in international disaster risk management with the guiding principles
The Bonn Network International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction is intended to encourage and encourage collaboration between Bonn experts on international risk management and to inform the interested public about current developments in this field. The guiding principle of sustainability should be further advanced. In this way, the network also makes a contribution to strengthening Bonn as a place for dialogue for global questions about the future and a “sustainability hub”.
In a broad coalition of actors from all areas and levels, the network would like to:
The partners in the network plan joint activities, such as active participation in national and international events, conferences and trade fairs, such as the Bonn Disaster Protection Day or UN events. In addition, workshops, lecture series and open discussions will provide information on current topics in the field of international disaster control management. These are not only addressed to experts, but should also be accessible to the interested public.
In the past, the network organized a series of public events on the topic of "International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction", which took place in various locations in Bonn in the 2018/2019 winter semester and 2019 summer semester, as well as a WebTalk-Series on the topic of "Climate Change and Disaster Management".
