The UN-SPIDER programme of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs will be organizing the "UN-SPIDER Bonn International Conference Space-based Solutions for Disaster Management: Early Warnings for All”. This conference will be held within the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany, from 12 to 14 March of this new year.
Information on the conference and the link to the registration is available in the UN-SPIDER Knowledge Portal at https://www.un-spider.org/news-and-events/news/registration-now-open-un-spider-bonn-international-conference-2024. There is no fee to participate in the conference, but registration is required.

The Bonn Network and their partner the DHL Group´s disaster management program
GoHelp, invite you to a joint Brainstorming Session on the planned extension of efforts of DHL GoHelp to Europe. GoHelp as one of the DHL Group's social impact programs seeks collaboration with the Bonn Network in recognition of the vast expertise the network's partners have to offer.

In the event of a disaster, many people want to provide spontaneous support. Coordinating the helpers is a major challenge.
Confronted with this problem, the software developers Sarah Stoffels, Thomas Mielke and Alexander Blum have developed an application and platform that can support the coordinated integration of spontaneous helpers. In the talk, a brief presentation of the areas of application and possible functions of the open source-based software will be given.
Depending on the present participants, the talk will be held in either English or German.

Today, the Bonn Network and some of its partners were able to present the perks of an interconnected network of diverse agents driven by the common goal of advancing DRR and
civil protection. There was an interesting exchange with a delegation of 35 individuals from Thailand, mainly involved with government agencies. The meeting was organized by GiZ Thailand and took place in the old city hall.
Many thanks to our partners at the city of Bonn for reaching out and inviting the network along to showcase Bonn as a Resilience Hub. Many thanks also to the partners of Bonn Fire Department and DHL GoHelp for their interesting presentations.

A cooperative series of events is currently being held by the Department of Civil Protection, Disaster Relief and Property Security (BuK) at the University of Wuppertal and the German Committee for Disaster Risk Reduction (DKKV). With the support of the City of Bonn and the Bonn Network, various speakers will accompany the events with their expertise on individual topics.
The event will take place alternately in Wuppertal and Bonn every two weeks and will also be offered in hybrid via Zoom.
The events will take place from 18:00 to 20:00.

This Saturday the Bonn Network launched its survey on Risk Communication. With the help of students of the Master's program 'Geography of Environmental Risk and Human Security', of
United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), and
The University of Bonn, we interviewed more than a hundred people during
UN Day in Bonn.
The survey was devised within the working group Risk Communication with the help of our partners at
German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV),
Bundesstadt Bonn and
Bundesamt für Bevölkerungsschutz und Katastrophenhilfe (BBK), and aims to assess the status quo of risk communication in Bonn and desirable methods for communicating risk in the future. The survey is part of Bonn's efforts as a
United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Resilience Hub within the
MCR2030 initiative.

The working group “Risk Communication” of the Bonn Network International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction met yesterday, 03 August, for the 2nd workshop on the topic of the same name. Melissa Schönholz and Durga Mohanakrishnan first gave an introduction to the topic and presented, among other things, methods, approaches and tools of risk communication.
This was followed by discussions in two groups. Group 1 looked at best and worst practices in risk communication, collected and evaluated examples, identified challenges and looked at the relevance of neighbourhood community for effective risk communication. Group 2 dealt with municipal risk communication and considered what concrete measures would be possible in Bonn, also under the aspect of the “Resilience Hub” status of the city of Bonn in the Making Cities Resilient network of the United Nations.

On Wednesday 26 April, the Bonn Network and the DKKV welcomed the ADAPT delegation from the Western Balkans to the Old Town Hall of the City of Bonn. The members stayed in Bonn for a week as part of a study tour organised by the project ADAPT: Nature-based Solutions for Resilient Societies in the Western Balkans. The trip focused on the capacity building and training components.
